Cheesecake incident at Ikea, Alexandra, Singapore

I've always had a good experience in Ikeas all around the world, but today, I had a pretty negative experience at Ikea Alexandra in Singapore.

I was getting some tea with my mom, and we decided to go to Ikea as I was going to build a display cabinet for her. After getting Blueberry Cheesecakes and coffee, we found a seat in a rather crowded Ikea Cafe at 2:30pm. As my mom does not know how to use the coffee machine, she got out of the seat and came to see how to operate the machine. When we returned to the seat, our Unopened, untouched Blueberry Cheesecakes were gone.

My mom was quite alarmed and she went to asked the staff cleaners if anyone cleared our cakes, and the cleaners all told her no one cleared our table. After asking one of the elderly male cleaner, the elderly cleaner replied, "If no one is sitting there, management tell us to clear everything." The remark made my mother even more frantic now as she felt that her $3.80 for each Cheesecake was gone. There are also questions about "Do you have a receipt?" Which of course it was with the missing Cheesecakes.

I told my mom to leave, but she insisted to talk to the manager, and somehow my mother came back with Cheesecakes. I was actually quite relieved that she managed to get the cake and eat it finally, however the manager came over and made a very "unprofessional" remark after I considered it, "Case Closed". She said, "Please don't accuse my staff of clearing your table."

Granted that someone may have stolen our Cheesecakes when we were getting coffee, but that remark was uncalled for as she said it in a very confrontational tone. The case was closed but she had to add in one last remark to "Win" the conversation or somehow save face for Ikea as they have given us our Cheesecakes which we have lost and Ikea conceded them to us?

I don't really get it why anyone would come when we were happily eating our cakes and feeling that the problem is resolved. If it was a "Is there anything else I could do for you?" or "I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience..." It would have been much better.

Well guess what, we decided that we do not need to purchase a $1000++ display cabinet from Ikea today. And of course, I'd think twice not before returning ever to Ikea for cakes and coffee, as there seem to be over eager cleaners or Cheesecake thieves there.
